Alexey Melnik
Associate Researcher
After completing his training, Alexey V. Melnik, a research scientist with the Aksenov Research Group at UCONN, joined Pieter Dorrestein’s Lab at the University of California San Diego. He focused on developing analytical tools and methods to explore human and microbial chemistry there. His projects encompassed a wide range of topics, from profiling bacterial extracts to predict evolutionary relationships to developing mass spectrometry-based workflows for characterizing, mapping, and quantifying human skin and microbial metabolites to visualize their localization throughout the body. He also dedicated his research to linking chemicals in bacterial extracts to their genetic capacity to produce such metabolites using mass spectrometry data and advanced bioinformatics platforms.
